Allentown, PA-based psych-punk band Pale Fang joined us on the roof of Bethlehem’s Flatiron Building in October, 2024 for our first nighttime Rooftop Session. The city’s skyline at night was a fitting backdrop for the band whose sound is certainly dark itself. Wailing guitars cut through driving garage-punk rhythms as singer D.D. Moon weaved tales of criminals, searching for lost promises of paradise, and personal let-downs. In addition to Moon on vocals and guitar, the band is made up of former Tape Swap Radio guests Chad Huntington on guitar (Poor Luther’s Bones), Lee Romich on drums (Fake Cult, L.A. Fastlife), and Josh Maskornick (VoirVoir, Broski), who sometimes plays a second drum kit in Pale Fang — although he only assisted with engineering on this session. New to the Tape Swap series is Nick Pokrivchak on bass, who has previously played in Valley bands like The Great White Caps and the short-lived Dinosorcerer. Nick also put together this great mixtape for us back for our very first show in 2013 under his White Caps alter ego Sylvester Seaweed.

Pale Fang performed four songs, with two of them coming from their new EP Lose It, which was just released earlier in October. “Nothing There for Me” and “Lose It” feature the same relentless, dark, and twisted sound you’ve come to expect from the group, and they find the band refining their sound to laser-quality precision. Meanwhile, the other two songs in the session, “Paradise” and “Criminal”, are among the band’s stand-out tracks in their catalogue.
